battery-operated smoke detectors. fire safety regulations in most canadian provinces require all homes to have a working smoke alarm on every floor and outside all sleeping areas. the smoke detectors currently available in hardware stores look utilitarian compared to other items that are placed on or near the ceiling of a room. by redesigning the plastic covers and simplifying its user interface, this inexpensive product can become a home accessory rather than a commodity.
